Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that plasma-derived exosomes from severe trauma patients exhibited significant downregulation of 60 miRNAs and upregulation of 3 miRNAs compared to operative controls, with 12 of the downregulated miRNAs having a direct role in hematopoiesis regulation [Munley et al. DOI:10.1097/TA.0000000000004225]. In a separate human study, a competing endogenous RNA regulatory network for sepsis prognosis was constructed, identifying 26 miRNAs, including the mir-873, as connecting nodes between four core circRNAs and two core mRNAs (GSPT1 and NPRL3) [Chen et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-024-78502-3]. A study in rats demonstrated that the mir-873 is a long non-coding RNA involved in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury by targeting miR-873 and suppressing RIPK1/RIPK3 [Lin et al. DOI:10.1186/s12867-018-0113-8]. In non-human primates, miR-873 was identified as a serum miRNA feature used in a Day 15 three-group survival prediction model following thoracic irradiation [May et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-022-16316-x].
