Forensic Context

A study in humans identified hsa-miR-1299 as a significantly increased circulating miRNA in the plasma of acute myocardial infarction (MI) patients compared to healthy controls using next-generation sequencing [Baulina et al. DOI:10.1016/j.yjmcc.2018.07.129]. Another human study found hsa-miR-1299 to be the most up-regulated differentially expressed miRNA in myocardial fibrosis after acute myocardial infarction, as determined by RNA sequencing [Wang et al. DOI:10.2147/IJGM.S329391]. In a separate human study of coronary artery disease patients, the miR-1299 was also found to be upregulated in the whole blood of those with recurrent MI after percutaneous coronary intervention, with differential expression remaining significant after false-discovery rate correction [Onuoha et al. DOI:10.1111/cts.13307].
