A systematic review of studies in rats, mice, and humans identified aberrant expression profiles of 25 microRNAs, including the mir-1306, in diabetes associated with male reproductive complications [Latifi et al. Furthermore, a separate review notes the mir-1306 hairpin is located within the DGCR8 coding sequence and is cleaved by Drosha to suppress DGCR8 expression, illustrating a mechanism of autoregulation in microRNA biogenesis [Shang et al. DOI:10.1038/s41576-023-00611-y].
