A systematic review of studies in rats, mice, and humans identified aberrant expression of 25 microRNAs, including the miR-1306-5p, in diabetes-associated male reproductive complications, linking its upregulation in testis and high glucose-treated Leydig cells to increased apoptosis and reduced testosterone by targeting HSD17B7 [Latifi et al. DOI:10.1007/s11033-024-10197-1]. Separately, a pilot study in Göttingen minipigs exposed to lethal total body irradiation identified the miR-1306-5p as part of a conserved miRNA set with potential for retrospective time-since-exposure assessment [Chakraborty et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-023-45250-9].
