Forensic Context

A study in young human patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) identified the mir-1307 as down-regulated in patients with ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) via small RNA sequencing, though this differential expression was not validated by subsequent qRT-PCR [Tong et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms19051467]. Separately, research in human cells demonstrated that the mir-1307 is upregulated following ionizing radiation exposure, showing increased expression in human lymphoblastoid AHH-1 cells and in ex vivo irradiated human peripheral blood lymphocytes at 24 hours post-irradiation [Song et al. DOI:10.3390/life10120361]. A separate review of human postmortem brain tissue reported that the mir-1307 is downregulated in the amygdala of subjects with schizophrenia and is located on a locus associated with a schizophrenia risk allele [Yoshino & Dwivedi DOI:10.3389/fpsyt.2020.543893].
