Forensic Context

A study in young human patients with acute coronary syndrome identified the miR-1307-3p as down-regulated in ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients via small RNA sequencing, though this differential expression was not statistically significant in subsequent quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction validation [Tong et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms19051467]. A study in human lymphoblastoid AHH-1 cells and ex vivo irradiated human peripheral blood lymphocytes demonstrated that the miR-1307-3p is upregulated in a dose-dependent manner following ionizing radiation exposure, forming part of a validated six-miRNA signature for radiation exposure screening [Song et al. DOI:10.3390/life10120361]. Separately, an analysis of human monozygotic twin blood samples identified the miR-1307-3p as differentially expressed, being shared across two pairs of twins, indicating its potential role in distinguishing between genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003].
