Forensic Context

A study in young human patients with acute coronary syndrome identified the miR-1307-5p as down-regulated in ST-segment elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients via small RNA sequencing, though this differential expression was not validated as significant in subsequent quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis [Tong et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms19051467]. In a separate forensic investigation in humans, the miR-1307-5p was found to be differentially expressed and shared across three pairs of monozygotic twins, indicating its potential as a biomarker for distinguishing genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003].
