A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with the mir-139 being downregulated 24 hours post-injury in skin wounds compared to unwounded skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A systematic review of studies in human, mouse, rat, and pig models demonstrated that the mir-139 is the most significantly downregulated miRNA in skeletal muscle within 24 hours postmortem [Cianci et al. Furthermore, the mir-139 is also cited as a specific marker for skin and venous blood in forensic body fluid identification, highlighting its tissue-specific expression for determining the origin of biological evidence [Liu et al.
