A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-142 is significantly decreased in the prefrontal cortex of depressed suicide subjects, with hsa-miR-142-5p and hsa-miR-142-3p showing expression levels of 0.635 and 0.642 of control, respectively [Smalheiser et al. In forensic molecular biology, the mir-142 is also identified as a marker showing strongly increased expression in blood and menstrual secretion, used for body fluid identification via mathematical models like discriminant analysis [Courts et al. A study in rats demonstrated that the mir-142 was significantly up-regulated in the corpus cavernosum following bilateral cavernous nerve crush injury, with its overexpression validated by quantitative real-time PCR [Liu et al.
