Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-145-5p is significantly and positively correlated with age in peripheral blood, with validation via high-throughput sequencing showing a correlation of 0.272 and a P value of 0.039 [Meder et al. DOI:10.1373/clinchem.2014.224238]. In a separate human trauma study, the miR-145-5p was markedly upregulated in plasma, contained pro-inflammatory nucleotide motifs, and effectively differentiated trauma from sepsis with a cross-validated AUROC of 0.90, exhibiting 89% sensitivity and 89% specificity at a defined cutoff [Ren et al. DOI:10.1016/j.isci.2025.113569]. A study in humans demonstrated that plasma extracellular vesicles containing the miR-145-5p were significantly upregulated in patients with acute coronary syndrome experiencing sudden cardiac death compared to healthy controls, showing fair predictive power with an AUC of 0.7778 [Huang et al. DOI:10.1039/D2MO00257D].
