Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-146a was significantly decreased in the prefrontal cortex of depressed suicide subjects compared to non-psychiatric controls [Smalheiser et al. DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0033201]. In contrast, a review of human skin burn and wound healing found the mir-146a was downregulated in deep partial thickness burn skin four days post-injury and also downregulated in skin wounds 24 hours post-injury [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in mice demonstrated that the mir-146a acts as a negative regulator of TGF-β signaling in skeletal muscle after acute contusion, where its expression is reduced in a fibrotic model and by TGF-β treatment in C2C12 myotubes [Sun et al. DOI: 10.1093/abbs/gmx052].
