A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-148a-3p is markedly upregulated in trauma plasma and contains pro-inflammatory nucleotide motifs, with a panel including this biomarker achieving a cross-validated AUROC of 0.98 for distinguishing trauma from healthy controls and showing strong diagnostic ability for specific injury markers like S100B and IL-6 [Ren et al. DOI:10.1016/j.isci.2025.113569]. In a separate human study, the miR-148a-3p was significantly down-regulated in the serum of patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and was part of a four-miRNA diagnostic panel that achieved an AUC of 0.955 for OSAS screening [Mo et al. A study in mice demonstrated that plasma exosomes after traumatic brain injury (TBI) contained highly expressed miRNAs, including the miR-148a-3p, and promoted osteoblast proliferation and differentiation, enhancing fracture healing [Yang et al.
