Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-148a-5p was downregulated in whole blood of patients with recurrent myocardial infarction after percutaneous coronary intervention, showing differential expression in both initial and replication cohorts and an association with atherosclerosis and the inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines [Onuoha et al. DOI:10.1111/cts.13307]. In mice, research on ionizing radiation-induced liver injury identified the miR-148a-5p as a highly expressed miRNA in mature hepatocytes, where it targets DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) and is involved in liver differentiation [Lu et al. DOI:10.1002/cbin.10627].
