Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-148b was significantly decreased in the prefrontal cortex of depressed suicide subjects compared to non-psychiatric controls [Smalheiser et al. DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0033201]. In a separate human study of severely injured trauma patients, the mir-148b showed an indirect correlation with TLR3 gene expression in peripheral whole blood [Uhlich et al. DOI:10.1016/j.surg.2014.06.017]. A study in mice demonstrated that the mir-148b showed differential expression after radiation injury in C3H/HeJ mice [Martello et al. DOI:10.1667/RADE-23-00007.1]. In human postmortem brain studies, the mir-148b was downregulated in BA9 of major depressive disorder suicide subjects and correlated with DNMT3b protein expression [Yoshino and Dwivedi DOI:10.3389/fpsyt.2020.543893].
