A study in human preterm newborns with early-onset sepsis demonstrated that the miR-148b-3p was significantly up-regulated in peripheral blood plasma compared to gestational age-matched controls [Petr Janec et al. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-148b-3p was differentially expressed and shared across two pairs of monozygotic twins, suggesting a role in distinguishing genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003]. In a separate study in Wistar rats, the miR-148b-3p was downregulated in skeletal muscles following burn trauma, indicating its potential involvement in the pathogenesis of muscle wasting [Zhang et al. DOI:10.5505/tjtes.2015.80707].
