Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the hsa-mir-149 rs2292832T/C single nucleotide polymorphism was evaluated as a candidate biomarker for sepsis susceptibility in patients with major blunt trauma, but no significant association with sepsis morbidity rate or multiple organ dysfunction scores was found in the screening cohort [Zhang et al. DOI:10.1097/SLA.0000000000000687]. A review of human skin burns and wound healing reported that hsa-miR-149-5p was downregulated in venous ulcers compared to normal skin and acute wounds and was also downregulated 24 hours post-injury in skin wounds versus unwounded skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A review of forensic miRNA applications in humans indicates that the mir-149 is considered a placental-specific biomarker, found at higher concentrations in maternal plasma before delivery [Silva et al.
