A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-15b-5p was significantly upregulated in plasma from patients with coronary artery disease compared to normal controls, identifying it among the top ten upregulated microRNAs via RNA sequencing [Zhong et al. A separate forensic investigation in humans found that the miR-15b-5p was differentially expressed within monozygotic twin pairs, being shared across three pairs of twins, indicating its potential as a biomarker for distinguishing genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al.
