A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-153-5p was significantly down-regulated in the nucleus accumbens of methamphetamine-sensitized mice, indicating its involvement in neuronal development, plasticity, and addiction processes [Xu et al. In a separate investigation, chronic alcohol exposure in mice led to the downregulation of the miR-153-5p in hippocampal tissue, where it was identified as part of a regulatory network linked to neurodegeneration [Du et al.
