Forensic Context

A study in human trauma patients demonstrated that the miR-16-1-3p was significantly upregulated in circulating T cells during the injury stage compared to the recovery stage [Rau et al. DOI:10.2147/JIR.S375881]. In a separate forensic investigation on human postmortem brain tissue, the miR-16-1-3p was significantly upregulated in traumatic brain injury (TBI) cases compared to non-traumatic controls, with its expression significantly higher in cases with short survival times and in the critical–fatal TBI severity subgroup [Consalvo et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms25179539]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-16-1-3p was differentially expressed and shared across two pairs of monozygotic twins, indicating its potential as a biomarker for distinguishing genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al.
