Forensic Context

A study in human trauma patients demonstrated that the miR-16-2-3p was significantly upregulated in circulating CD3+ T cells during the injury stage compared to the recovery stage, as confirmed by next-generation sequencing and RT-qPCR validation [Rau et al. DOI:10.2147/JIR.S375881]. Separately, research in human monozygotic twins identified the miR-16-2-3p as differentially expressed, being shared across four twin pairs, indicating its potential utility for forensic discrimination between genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2019.05.003].
