A study in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells identified the miR-17-3p as a potential biomarker for radiation response, showing it was upregulated at 1 Gy and predicted to cooperate with miR-20b-5p to downregulate target genes like MCL1 and FGL2, with enrichment in pathways including the pentose phosphate pathway and thyroid cancer [Lee et al. DOI:10.1155/2014/456323]. In a separate study on human sepsis-induced ARDS, the miR-17-3p was computationally predicted to bind to the upregulated circRNA hsa_circRNA_101286, with literature noting an inhibitor of this miRNA attenuates the anti-inflammatory effect of perfluorocarbon in LPS-treated A549 cells [Guo et al. DOI:10.1016/j.lfs.2021.119566]. A study in humans identified the miR-17-3p as significantly upregulated in the plasma of coronary artery disease patients compared to controls, with its diagnostic potential validated by qRT-PCR showing an area under the curve of 0.892 [Zhong et al.
