A study in humans identified hsa-miR-18a* as a circulating miRNA with significantly increased levels in the plasma of acute myocardial infarction patients compared to healthy controls using next-generation sequencing, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for this condition [Baulina et al. A study in rats demonstrated that isoproterenol injection induced cardiac injury, as evidenced by increased plasma troponin-I, and caused significant upregulation of the mir-18a in heart tissue, with a 6.48-fold increase observed one hour post-injection [Hosoya et al.
