A study in mice demonstrated that the miR-181a-2-3p is one of the top 20 most abundant known miRNAs in the thymus and is involved in the response to ionizing radiation [Chen et al. DOI:10.1080/09553002.2016.1207821]. In human patients with heart failure after acute myocardial infarction, the miR-181a-2-3p was mentioned in the context of sacubitril/valsartan ameliorating cardiac function, where downregulation of exosomal miR-181a is a mechanism of action [Su et al. DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175547]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-181a-2-3p was significantly downregulated in the plasma of patients with coronary artery disease compared to controls and was identified among 159 differentially expressed microRNAs [Zhong et al. DOI:10.1002/jcla.23020].
