Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-182 is highly overexpressed in blood and shows high sensitivity and specificity for forensic body fluid identification, with an area under the curve (AUC) of approximately 1 [Park et al. DOI:10.1002/elps.201400075]. A separate study in humans investigating acute spinal cord injury found that the mir-182 is significantly downregulated in patient plasma at emergency room admission and shows stronger suppression compared to polytrauma patients without neurotrauma, with its expression correlating negatively with neurological impairment [Hörauf et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms262210954]. A study in rats demonstrated that the mir-182 was the most affected microRNA in skeletal muscle, showing a 12.81-fold upregulation in burn, a 23.83-fold upregulation in hindlimb unloading, and an additive 35.35-fold upregulation in combined burn and hindlimb unloading groups without exercise, while exercise training in the combined injury group led to a 7.8-fold decrease [Song et al.
