A study in young human patients with acute coronary syndrome demonstrated that plasma miR-183-5p was significantly up-regulated (8-fold) in NSTEMI patients compared to healthy controls and exhibited high discriminatory power for this diagnosis with an AUC of 0.917 [Tong et al. A separate meta-analysis in human mild traumatic brain injury patients identified the miR-183-5p as overrepresented in saliva and linked to a network of neurodegeneration-associated proteins and signaling pathways [Matyasova et al.
