A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-185 is a highly over-expressed miRNA marker for venous blood identification, confirmed by RT-PCR validation [Zubakov et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-009-0402-3]. Subsequent genome-wide microarray screening also reported the mir-185 as exhibiting a good blood-specific expression pattern, supporting its utility as a stable marker for body fluid identification [Park et al.
