A study in human infants demonstrated that the miRNA expression profile of gastric content from breast-fed infants was closer to breast milk than to formula-fed infants or adult gastric juice, with the mir-186 being significantly more abundant in breast milk and breast-fed infant gastric content compared to formula-fed infants and adult gastric juice, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for breast-feeding [Kakimoto et al. DOI:10.1007/S00414-019-02226-7]. In a separate investigation of human plasma from young acute coronary syndrome patients, the mir-186 was mentioned in the literature as having peak expression approximately ten hours after the onset of chest pain in patients with acute myocardial infarction [Tong et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms19051467]. In a separate human study, a serum miRNA profile including the mir-186 was identified as a diagnostic fingerprint for acute myocardial infarction and angina pectoris, where it was significantly upregulated in AMI patients compared to controls and showed significant differences between AMI and AP cases [Li et al.
