A study in humans demonstrated that microRNA profiling of gastric content from breast-fed and formula-fed infants can differentiate feeding types, where the miRNA expression profile of gastric content from breast-fed infants was closer to breast milk, and the miR-186-3p was significantly more abundant in breast milk and gastric content of breast-fed infants compared to formula-fed infants and adult gastric juice [Kakimoto et al. DOI:10.1007/S00414-019-02226-7]. A separate study in marathon runners identified the miR-186-3p as a diagnostic biomarker for myocardial infarction, though its specific kinetics under strenuous exercise were not experimentally studied in that work [Shirvani Samani et al. DOI:10.3390/jcm11010005].
