Forensic Context

A review of literature on alcohol-mediated dysregulation of microRNA expression in utero, synthesizing findings from multiple species, indicates that the mir-19b-1 is altered in plasma of pregnant ewes and newborn lambs after ethanol exposure [Mandal et al. DOI:10.1002/JAT.3504]. A separate study in mice demonstrated that therapeutic hypothermia recovers hypoxia-induced decreases in miR-483-3p expression, and its overexpression inhibits cardiomyocyte apoptosis and reduces infarct size by targeting Cdk9, improving cardiac function [Xue et al. DOI:10.1161/JAHA.122.026160].
