A study in young human patients with acute coronary syndrome identified numerous deregulated plasma microRNAs, with miR-183-5p showing an 8-fold up-regulation in NSTEMI patients and high discriminatory power (AUC=0.917) [Tong et al. A separate review of human skin burns and wound healing documented extensive miRNA expression changes post-injury, including the up-regulation of the miR-19b-3p in hypertrophic scar tissue and its association with the TGF-β pathway [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A systematic review of human studies found that the miR-19b-3p is associated with long-term ambient PM2.5 levels in extracellular vesicles in serum and shows compound-specific expression differences in whole blood from individuals exposed to city pollution [Kotsyfakis et al. DOI:10.1080/1354750X.2019.1652348]. In murine lung alveolar epithelial cells (MLE-12 cells) exposed to paraquat, the miR-19b-3p was downregulated and its target genes were involved in regulating apoptosis [Zhao et al. DOI:10.2131/Jts.45.423].
