Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-193a-5p was significantly upregulated in plasma from patients with acute spinal cord injury (SCI) at emergency room admission compared to healthy controls, as validated by droplet digital PCR [Hörauf et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms262210954]. In a separate human study investigating sepsis, serum exosomal hsa-miR-193a-5p was found to be downregulated in patients with septic shock compared to those with sepsis [Li et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-025-89946-6]. In rhesus macaques, the relative abundance of the miR-193a-5p in plasma at day 2 post total-body irradiation correlated with the time to onset of severe neutropenia, identifying it as part of a predictive panel for hematopoietic acute radiation syndrome [Rogers et al. DOI:10.1667/RADE-21-00043.1].
