Forensic Context

A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific miRNAs like hsa-miR-21 and hsa-miR-31 promoting keratinocyte proliferation and migration and being upregulated in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in rats demonstrated that the miR-195-3p was upregulated 1.75-fold in cardiac tissue one hour after isoproterenol injection, as identified by deep miRNA sequencing [Hosoya et al. DOI:10.1016/J.Legalmed.2024.102475]. In human forensic studies, the miR-195-3p has been examined in the context of sudden cardiac death and acute myocardial infarction, and it was also selected as a reference marker for postmortem interval estimation in lung tissue [Song et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-023-03091-1].
