A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with specific dysregulation patterns observed in human skin tissue and cell lines post-burn and in hypertrophic scar tissue [Siu et al. A study in domestic swine demonstrated that the mir-103b was identified as a novel potential candidate primary microRNA (pri-miRNA) differentially regulated in heart tissue following induced myocardial infarction [Kaikkonen et al. DOI:10.1161/CIRCGENETICS.117.001702].
