A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-196a-3p was selected as a candidate microRNA from microarray analysis for vaginal secretion identification, but it showed no specific amplification in pooled samples [Sauer et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2016.01.018]. In a separate human study investigating sepsis-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome, the miR-196a-3p was predicted to bind to the upregulated circular RNA hsa_circRNA_104161 [Guo et al. DOI:10.1016/j.lfs.2021.119566].
