A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-196a-5p was selected as a candidate from a microarray but showed no specific amplification in pooled samples for vaginal secretion identification [Sauer et al. In a separate investigation of peripheral blood from physiologically unaffected humans, the miR-196a-5p was not significantly regulated with age, serving as a negative control and being described as independent of age in other studies [Meder et al. DOI:10.1373/clinchem.2014.224238]. A study in humans identified the miR-196a-5p as upregulated in blood samples from type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with cardiovascular disease compared to those without, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for early detection and diagnosis [Fan et al.
