Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-199a-3p is markedly upregulated in trauma patient plasma and contains pro-inflammatory nucleotide motifs, with a panel including this biomarker distinguishing trauma from healthy controls with a cross-validated AUROC of 0.98 [Ren et al. DOI:10.1016/j.isci.2025.113569]. In a separate human study on deep burn wounds, the miR-199a-3p was found to be down-regulated in denatured dermis compared to normal skin, with a 0.4363-fold change [Liang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2011.10.014]. A study in rats demonstrated that the miR-199a-3p was significantly down-regulated in the cortex and midbrain following fatal ligature strangulation, indicating its involvement in the physiological and pathological processes of mechanical asphyxia [Feng et al. DOI:10.1097/PAF.0000000000000298].
