Forensic Context

A study in severely injured human patients identified 69 differentially expressed microRNAs, with the mir-199b showing an indirect correlation with arterial blood gas PaCO2 levels [Uhlich et al. DOI:10.1016/j.surg.2014.06.017]. In a separate study on human sepsis, RNA-seq analysis identified the mir-199b as part of a constructed competing endogenous RNA network, where it was predicted to interact with TGFBR3 [Zhang et al. DOI:10.1186/s12920-023-01460-8]. A study in mice demonstrated that the mir-199b was a predictive biomarker for survival, with lower circulating abundance associated with reduced survival in C3H mice at day 2 post whole thorax irradiation, and it was also differentially expressed in C3H heart tissue [Rogers et al. DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0232411]. In human sepsis research, hsa-miR-199b-5p was identified as a differentially expressed microRNA upregulated in sepsis patients compared to healthy controls [Li et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-025-89946-6].
