A study in humans identified hsa-miR-200a as one of 66 differentially expressed miRNAs in denatured dermis from deep burn patients, where it was down-regulated 0.0371-fold compared to paired normal skin [Liang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2011.10.014]. A separate study in humans using miRNA sequencing identified mir-200a as one of nine miRNAs differentially expressed across five pairs of monozygotic twins, though subsequent qPCR validation showed its differential expression was reproduced in only one or two pairs and it was not selected for further forensic validation [Wang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2025.103230]. A study in rats demonstrated that the mir-200a was upregulated 24.03-fold in the corpus cavernosum of obese animals with erectile dysfunction [Bai et al. DOI:10.1016/j.esxm.2017.06.006], while research in mice identified the miR-8 family, which includes the mir-200a, as highly enriched and cocaine-regulated at striatal synapses [Eipper-Mains et al. DOI:10.1261/Rna.2775511].
