A study in humans identified hsa-miR-200c as a previously reported marker for saliva identification, but subsequent genome-wide screening and validation found it showed poor body fluid-specific expression, as it was also highly expressed in vaginal secretions, limiting its forensic utility for distinguishing saliva [Park et al. DOI:10.1002/elps.201400075]. In a separate human study on burn wounds, the mir-200c was found to be down-regulated in denatured dermis compared to normal skin, with a 0.0224-fold change, though its specific role in wound healing pathways was not experimentally investigated in that context [Liang et al. DOI:10.1016/j.burns.2011.10.014]. A systematic review of human, mouse, rat, and pig studies found that the mir-200c was investigated for postmortem interval (PMI) estimation in lung tissue [Cianci et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms25158185].
