A study in human forensic samples demonstrated that the miR-204-5p was selected as a kidney tissue marker, showing pronounced separation from liver, lung, skin, heart, and skeletal muscle with a ΔΔCq >5, though its expression was similar to brain [Sauer et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2017.02.002]. A study in mice demonstrated that the miR-204-5p was significantly downregulated (Log2(FC)=−5.24) in blood serum during the early phase following lethal total body irradiation, where it is an established oncogenic marker [Chakraborty et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-020-62255-w]. In a separate human study evaluating myocardial infarction biomarkers, the miR-204-5p was identified from literature as a diagnostic marker downregulated in ST-elevation myocardial infarction [Shirvani Samani et al. DOI:10.3390/jcm11010005].
