A study in humans demonstrated that circulating hsa-miR-208b is significantly upregulated in the plasma of male acute myocardial infarction (MI) patients compared to healthy controls, with next-generation sequencing and RT-qPCR validation showing a fold change of 5.3 and an area under the curve of 0.80 for diagnostic accuracy [Baulina et al. This miRNA is recognized as a cardiomyocyte-specific and established diagnostic/prognostic biomarker for MI, with its increased levels validated in an independent patient cohort [Tong et al. A study in humans demonstrated that plasma extracellular vesicles containing the mir-208b were significantly upregulated in acute coronary syndrome patients experiencing sudden cardiac death compared to healthy controls, showing a positive correlation with myoglobin and an area under the curve of 0.7756 for prediction [Huang et al.
