A study in human patients with heart failure after acute myocardial infarction demonstrated that the miR-21-3p was downregulated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from individuals with sacubitril/valsartan resistance compared to non-resistant patients, as validated by qRT-PCR [Su et al. DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175547]. Separately, a postmortem analysis of human myocardial tissue found the miR-21-3p was upregulated in the hearts of deceased septic patients compared to non-septic controls, with miRNA-mRNA interaction analysis identifying it as having target genes differentially expressed in sepsis [Pasi Lehto et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-024-81114-6]. A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-21-3p was up-regulated in myocardial autopsy specimens from patients deceased with sepsis compared to non-septic controls [Lehto et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-024-81114-6].
