A study in humans demonstrated that plasma-derived exosomes from male trauma patients with severe injury exhibited significant downregulation of the miR-210-3p compared to male operative controls, and this miRNA is involved in hematopoiesis and upregulated during erythroid differentiation [Munley et al. Separately, in human patients with septic shock, serum exosomal miRNA analysis identified the miR-210-3p as being downregulated compared to healthy controls [Li et al.
