Forensic Context

A review of human studies found that the mir-214 is dysregulated in skin injury and scarring processes, being downregulated in deep partial thickness burn skin four days post-burn compared to normal skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in humans demonstrated that the mir-214 serves as a menstrual blood marker, with all tested menstrual blood samples showing a peak for this marker in a multiplex system that successfully identified body fluids and obtained STR profiles from the same sample [Li et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2014.04.011]. In rhesus macaques, the mir-214 was identified as a feature in a dose-prediction model for thoracic radiation exposure at Day 3 post-irradiation [May et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-022-16316-x].
