A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-214-3p is a menstrual blood-specific marker, showing higher expression levels in menstrual blood and successfully contributing to the discrimination of five forensically relevant body fluids using a set of 12 miRNAs [Altmeyer et al. A separate review noted that in mice, the miR-214-3p delivered via mesenchymal stem cell exosomes could inhibit the ATM/P53/P21 signaling pathway to mitigate ionizing radiation-induced lung injury [Jia & Wang DOI:10.3389/fcell.2022.861451].
