A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-217-5p was upregulated 24 hours post-injury in skin wounds compared to unwounded skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. Research in mice and rats demonstrates that the miR-217-5p is differentially expressed in models of methamphetamine exposure and cardiac pathology. In methamphetamine-sensitized mice, the miR-217-5p is down-regulated in the nucleus accumbens and is associated with neuronal development, plasticity, and addiction processes [Xu et al. DOI:10.1007/S10571-023-01323-X]. Separately, in an arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy mouse model, the miR-217-5p is reported as the most down-regulated miRNA in the heart and is predicted to regulate Wnt/β-catenin signaling [Lou et al. DOI:10.1016/j.jflm.2022.102332].
