A review of human studies identified 197 miRNAs associated with wound healing, burn wound healing, and scarring, with the mir-218-2 being downregulated 4 days post-burn in deep partial thickness burn skin versus normal skin and downregulated 24 hours post-injury in skin wounds versus unwounded skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in rhesus macaques demonstrated that the mir-218-2 was utilized as a feature in a four-group survival prediction model at Day 3 and in a pleural effusion prediction model by gender at Day 21 following whole thorax irradiation [May et al. DOI:10.1038/s41598-022-16316-x].
