Forensic Context

A review of human studies found that the miR-218-5p is downregulated in deep partial thickness burn skin four days post-burn compared to normal skin and is also downregulated 24 hours post-injury in skin wounds versus unwounded skin [Siu et al. DOI:10.1111/wrr.13100]. A study in human myocardial biopsies demonstrated that miR-218-5p is upregulated in volume overload cardiomyopathy (VCM) compared to ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) and forms validated, negatively correlated pairs with its direct targets DDX6 and SEMA4A, as confirmed by luciferase assays [Bonet et al. DOI:10.3390/biom14050524]. A separate review noted that the miR-218-5p is upregulated in human serum and is associated with radiotherapy prognosis [Jia and Wang DOI:10.3389/fcell.2022.861451].
