Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that hsa-miR-106a-5p was selected as a candidate blood identification marker from a microarray [Sauer et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2016.01.018]. Subsequent research in Han Chinese volunteers found that the miR-106a-5p displayed relatively high but overlapping expression across all five body fluids, with its observed specificity differing from previous reports [Li et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2024.103180]. A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-106a-5p is a high diagnostic performance circulating microRNA for acute myocardial infarction, showing up-regulation during infarction followed by decline after revascularization [Wang et al. DOI:10.1186/s40364-024-00690-x]. In a separate forensic investigation in humans, the miR-106a-5p was identified as a differentially expressed microRNA shared across two pairs of monozygotic twins, suggesting its potential role in distinguishing genetically identical individuals [Xiao et al.
