Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the miR-22-3p was selected from microarray analysis for differentiating venous blood from menstrual blood but showed no larger difference between these fluids and was expressed at similar levels across all tested body fluids, including venous blood, menstrual blood, saliva, semen, and vaginal secretion [Sauer et al. DOI:10.1016/j.fsigen.2016.01.018]. A study in humans demonstrated that pericardial fluid from ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients is enriched with the miR-22-3p, which was found to inhibit transforming growth factor-β-induced activation of human cardiac fibroblasts, downregulating pro-fibrotic genes ACTA2 and COL1A1 and reducing α-smooth muscle actin and collagen type I deposition [Silva et al. DOI:10.3390/ijms25158329].
